I first discovered the CTL Fellows program during my freshman year, and was immediately drawn to its mission of making Hawaii a better place for all. Excited to apply, I was disappointed to learn that the program was only open to seniors, which meant I had to wait two years. Although I had to wait, my eagerness to participate in the program grew. Now as a senior, I am appreciative to be a part of this initiative. This opportunity allows me to enhance my leadership abilities and make a difference in Hawaii.

I've been enrolled in AVID for all four years of my high school, and through AVID, I've been involved in CTL for three years now. I'm always looking forward to classes in which I have CTL, the lessons that I have learned made me look into different perspective and go against the status quo. I decided that the Fellows program can provide me the environment and resources that can further help me succeed.

I applied to the Fellows program to develop and test my character and skills as a leader. I’ve realized the danger of staying stagnant by not taking risks, and this is my biggest risk yet.

I applied to the Fellows program because I believe that strong leaders are essential for building a strong community. As I assumed more leadership roles in my school, I wanted to ensure I was making the most of these opportunities. Leadership is a skill that grows through understanding one's strengths and limitations. I saw the Fellows program as an excellent chance to expand my perspective and embrace new challenges.

I first heard about the Fellows Program through my school's librarian, who nominated me to apply. After looking further into the program, I was inspired by its mission. I want to be a part of an effort that brings change to the islands and makes Hawai'i stronger. I also was inspired to apply knowing I would be working alongside seniors from all over the island. I truly believe diversity of thought and experience provides the best context for solving complex problems and I'm excited to see what we accomplish!
